NORTH EAST, Md.- Behind commanding performances on the mound from Brock Whipkey and Evan Jenkins and a relentless offensive surge led by Lex Wescott and John Mallow, the Catamounts rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Cecil, winning 12-1 and 12-2.
In the first inning of the opener, the Catamounts erupted for six runs. John Mallow sparked the surge with a two-run double into the gap, plating Lex Wescott and Tate Musko. Moments later, Mallow scored on a sacrifice fly, and a defensive miscue extended the inning further. Braden Sloan capped the outburst with a two-run double, pushing the lead to 6-0 before Cecil could settle in.
Potomac State stayed on the attack in the second, when Wescott again ignited the offense, scoring on Peyton Blue's RBI double to stretch the margin to 7-0. Cecil scratched across a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half.
The Catamounts delivered more runs in the third inning. Capitalizing on defensive miscues, Seth Healy and Evan Swain crossed the plate before Wescott lined an RBI single to left, pushing the lead to 10-1.
They added finishing touches in the seventh, as Sloan drove in another run and Wescott added his second RBI of the day on a groundout, sealing the 12-1 victory.
While the offense dazzled, Brock Whipkey was the quiet architect of dominance on the mound. The right-hander worked six strong innings, allowing just two hits and one run while navigating five walks. Noah Durance worked a clean seventh inning to close the game.
Wescott (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Mallow (2 hits, 2 RBI) anchored the offensive onslaught, setting the tone for the day.
In the nightcap, Potomac State wasted little time again in the first inning, jumping ahead 2-0 behind an RBI single from Mallow and a towering solo home run from Jaxon Drennen.
In the fourth inning, the Catamounts broke the game open with a six-run explosion. Callen Miller's RBI single started the rally before Brayden Harris ripped a two-run double. Moments later, Tate Musko delivered a two-run single, and Wescott added an RBI double, capping a relentless stretch that pushed the lead to 8-1.
Potomac State continued to apply pressure in the fifth, as Braden Sloan added another RBI knock, and again in the seventh, when Sloan and Musko delivered run-scoring plays and Braeden Oviedo drew a bases-loaded walk to complete the 12-run effort.
On the mound, Evan Jenkins was surgical. The right-hander tossed six innings of one-run baseball, scattering five hits while striking out five.
Offensively, the Catamounts once again leaned on their catalysts. Wescott delivered multiple hits and extra-base damage, while Mallow continued his steady production in the middle of the lineup. The duo consistently set the table and delivered in key moments, embodying the disciplined, aggressive approach that defined the sweep.
