Arnold, Md. – The WVU Potomac State College Softball team opened Region 20 play in dominant fashion Sunday, sweeping Anne Arundel Community College in a road doubleheader. The Catamounts piled up 44 runs on 36 hits across two run-rule victories to improve to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 20 competition.
Game 1 – WVU Potomac State 24, Anne Arundel 1 (5 innings)
Potomac State wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for six runs in the first inning and nine more in the second to break the game open early.
The Catamounts finished with 24 runs on 19 hits, highlighted by a monster performance from Skyla Compton, who went 4-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, and five runs scored. Compton's power surge included a solo blast in the fourth and a two-run shot in the fifth to cap the scoring. Adison Pritts delivered one of the biggest swings of the day in the second inning, launching a grand slam to center field as part of a four-RBI performance. She finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Delaney Randolph added three hits and three RBI, while Alyssa Abel went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Alaira Harrington contributed two hits and two RBI, and Melani Casto chipped in two hits and three RBI as the Catamount lineup produced nine walks and extra-base hits throughout the order.
In the circle, Lacie Miller earned the win with three strong innings, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out two. McKinlea Hill closed the final two innings, surrendering only one hit and striking out three to secure the five-inning victory.
Game 2 – WVU Potomac State 20, Anne Arundel 3 (5 innings)
The offensive momentum carried into Game 2 as the Catamounts plated 20 runs on 17 hits to complete the sweep.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the second, Potomac State exploded for eight runs in the third inning. Pritts jumpstarted the rally with a two-run home run to left, finishing 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Compton continued her dominant day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two more home runs and six RBI. Her three-run homer in the fifth highlighted a 10-run inning that put the game out of reach.
Maddie Fields was a catalyst at the top of the order, scoring four runs and reaching base five times, while Carlee Haines tallied two hits and two RBI. Makayla Irvin added a run-scoring single, and Lacie Miller drove in a run and reached base three times. The Catamounts also drew 12 walks, consistently applying pressure throughout the contest.
Delaney Randolph picked up the win in the circle, tossing all five innings. She allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven.
Across the doubleheader, Potomac State totaled six home runs and 41 RBIs, showcasing both power and depth throughout the lineup. With the sweep, the Catamounts open Region 20 play at 2-0 and carry significant momentum into their next stretch of games.
