Potomac State Splits Road Doubleheader at Frederick

Frederick, Md. - The Potomac State softball team traveled to play on Monday in a doubleheader split against Frederick Community College. The Catamounts dropped the opener 8–6 before bouncing back with a strong 7–4 victory in Game 2.


Game 1 – Frederick 8, Potomac State 6

Potomac State jumped out to an early lead and looked poised to remain unbeaten, but a big fifth inning by Frederick turned the tide as the Catamounts fell 8–6 in the opener. The Catamounts struck first in the top of the first when Adison Pritts delivered an RBI single to score Skyla Compton and give Potomac State a 1–0 advantage.

Potomac State broke the game open in the fourth inning with a four-run rally. Olivia Julian highlighted the frame with a two-RBI single that plated Maddie Fields and Jaianna Wickline. Later in the inning, Katelyn Cooper added a sacrifice fly before Compton drove in another run with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5–0.

Frederick chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before erupting for six runs in the fifth to move in front. The Catamounts continued to battle, trimming the deficit to 8–6 in the sixth when Alaira Harrington lifted a sacrifice fly that brought home Makayla Irvin.

Potomac State finished with 10 hits in the contest. Fields led the offense with two hits, while Pritts also collected two hits and an RBI. Julian drove in a team-high two runs. In the circle, Lacie Miller started the game and worked four innings, while Delaney Randolph tossed the final two frames in relief.


Game 2 – Potomac State 7, Frederick 4

The Catamounts responded in Game 2 with a powerful offensive showing, collecting 13 hits to secure a 7–4 victory and earn the split. After Frederick took a 1–0 lead in the first, Potomac State tied the game in the second when Makayla Irvin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Carlee Haines.

The defining moment came in the fourth inning when Skyla Compton launched a grand slam to center field, scoring Maddie Fields, Irvin, and Lacie Miller to give Potomac State a 5–1 lead. The Catamounts added insurance runs later in the game. Delaney Randolph drove in Adison Pritts with an RBI single in the sixth, and Alyssa Abel delivered another run-scoring single in the seventh.

Compton led the offense with four RBIs on the grand slam and finished with two hits. Olivia Julian paced the lineup with three hits, while Pritts and Haines each added two hits as part of the 13-hit attack. In the circle, Randolph earned the win after pitching five innings and allowing just one earned run. Miller closed out the final two innings in relief to secure the victory.


Potomac State will look to build on the Game 2 momentum as the Catamounts continue their early-season schedule as they host Allegany College of Maryland on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026 at 3pm and 5pm.
