Keyser, W. Va. - The Potomac State softball team put together a dominant all-around performance on Saturday, sweeping Howard Community College behind explosive offense and strong pitching. The Catamounts combined for 24 runs across the two games, controlling the action from start to finish.
Game 1: WVU Potomac State 11, Howard CC 2 (5 innings)
After surrendering a two-run homer in the opening inning, Potomac State quickly responded and never looked back, scoring 11 unanswered runs to secure a run-rule victory.
Skyla Compton sparked the offense in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run to give the Catamounts the lead. She continued to produce throughout the game, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs, a double, and eight RBI in a standout performance.
The Catamounts broke the game open in the second inning, highlighted by Compton's grand slam that pushed the lead to five runs. Potomac State added four more runs in the third to put the game out of reach.
Adison Pritts reached base three times, scoring three runs and driving in two, while Maddie Fields scored three times and swiped three bases to set the tone atop the lineup. Jaianna Wickline also crossed the plate twice and added two stolen bases.
In the circle, Lacie Miller delivered a complete game effort, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out six over five innings.
Game 2: WVU Potomac State 13, Howard CC 4 (5 innings)
Potomac State carried its offensive momentum into Game 2, erupting for six runs in the first inning and maintaining control throughout the contest.
Alaira Harrington led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Alyssa Abel provided a key early swing with a three-run home run in the opening frame and finished with four RBI.
Adison Pritts continued her strong showing at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Maddie Fields added a triple and scored twice. The Catamounts totaled 14 hits in the game, showcasing consistent production throughout the lineup.
Delaney Randolph earned the win in the circle, tossing five innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out three.
