Keyser, W.Va. - Potomac State Softball bounced back in a big way after a tough opening game, using an explosive middle-inning rally to salvage a split against Bryant & Stratton (VA). The Catamounts showed resilience throughout the day, answering adversity with one of their most productive offensive innings of the season.
Game 1 – Bryant & Stratton (VA) 5, WVU Potomac State 3
The Catamounts struck first with a two-run opening inning, capitalizing on an RBI single from Adison Pritts and an error to take an early lead.
Potomac State collected eight hits in the contest, with Skyla Compton leading the way with two hits, including a solo home run in the fifth inning to cut into the deficit. Katelyn Cooper added a pair of hits, while Pritts finished with an RBI.
After holding the lead early, the Catamounts saw Bryant & Stratton take control in the middle innings. A three-run fourth inning shifted momentum, followed by a two-run home run in the fifth that extended the advantage.
Inside the circle, Delaney Randolph took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs over five innings of work. Lacie Miller was strong in relief, tossing two scoreless innings and striking out two.
Game 2 – WVU Potomac State 13, Bryant & Stratton (VA) 7
The Catamounts answered emphatically in game two, overcoming an early 4-0 deficit with a dominant eight-run fourth inning to flip the game completely.
After chipping away with runs in the second and third innings, Potomac State broke through in the fourth. Adison Pritts delivered the biggest swing of the day with a grand slam, part of a four-RBI performance that ignited the rally.
Maddie Fields continued her strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a triple, while scoring three times and swiping multiple bases. Jaianna Wickline was also a key contributor, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and aggressive baserunning that helped fuel the offense.
The Catamounts totaled nine hits and drew five walks, consistently pressuring the defense and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
In the circle, Randolph earned the win in relief, tossing five innings while allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out three. Miller opened the game and later secured the save, helping preserve the lead down the stretch.
Potomac State's ability to respond in game two highlighted the team's resilience, turning an early deficit into a convincing win and closing the day with momentum.
