Waynesburg, Pa. - The Potomac State College softball team put together a complete performance on both sides of the ball, sweeping a doubleheader over Waynesburg's JV on the road. The Catamounts collected 22 hits across the two games while receiving complete-game efforts in the circle to secure the sweep.
Game 1: WVU Potomac State 5, Waynesburg JV 3
The Catamounts opened the day with a steady offensive showing and a composed outing in the circle from Delaney Randolph, who earned her 15th win of the season.
Potomac State struck first in the second inning, as Jaianna Wickline delivered an RBI single before Makayla Irvin followed with a two-run single to give the Catamounts an early 3-0 advantage. Waynesburg responded in the bottom half of the inning to even the score, but the Catamounts never wavered.
The game remained tied until the sixth inning when Potomac State broke through again. Wickline and Carlee Haines set the table, and Irvin came through in the clutch once more, driving in two runs with her second hit of the game to give the Catamounts a 5-3 lead.
Irvin paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and four RBIs, while Haines added a perfect 2-for-2 day with two runs scored. Wickline contributed two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, helping spark the lineup throughout the contest.
In the circle, Randolph went the distance, allowing just two earned runs on six hits while striking out three. She worked efficiently through seven innings to secure the victory and keep Waynesburg off the board after the second inning.
Game 2: WVU Potomac State 6, Waynesburg JV 3
The Catamounts carried their momentum into game two, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to complete the sweep behind another complete-game effort—this time from Lacie Miller.
Potomac State jumped out early in the first inning as Skyla Compton tripled to drive in Adison Pritts, setting the tone offensively. The Catamounts added another run in the third inning when Maddie Fields showcased heads-up baserunning, stealing home to extend the lead.
After Waynesburg tied the game in the fifth, Potomac State responded decisively in the sixth inning. Cooper delivered an RBI single, Haines added a sacrifice RBI, and Randolph followed with an RBI knock to cap a three-run inning that put the Catamounts back in control.
Pritts continued her standout performance at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Compton added two hits, including a triple, while Fields contributed two hits and two runs scored, highlighted by her four stolen bases. The Catamounts' aggressive approach on the basepaths proved pivotal, swiping multiple bags to apply constant pressure.
Miller tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out three to earn her 11th win of the season. She navigated traffic effectively and limited damage in key moments to preserve the lead.
Potomac State's balanced offensive production and consistent pitching efforts powered the Catamounts to a convincing doubleheader sweep, continuing their strong play as the season progresses.
