Keyser, W.Va. - WVU Potomac State College softball team celebrated Sophomore Day in winning fashion, as sophomores Skyla Compton and Lacie Miller led the Catamounts to a pair of victories over Hagerstown Community College. Backed by timely hitting and dominant performances in the circle, Potomac State controlled both games to cap a special day at home.
Game 1: WVU Potomac State 5, Hagerstown CC 3
The Catamounts used late-inning execution to rally past Hagerstown in the opener. After falling behind early, Potomac State answered in the second inning as Compton swiped home to tie the game. Hagerstown regained the lead, but the Catamounts delivered in the fifth inning when Compton laced a two-RBI double to even the score at three.
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning, when Maddie Fields drove in two runs with a clutch double to give Potomac State the lead for good. Fields led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIs, while Compton added two hits and two RBIs. Adison Pritts contributed with a hit, a run scored, and a walk to support the attack.
In the circle, Delaney Randolph went the distance, allowing just one earned run while striking out seven to secure the win.
Game 2: WVU Potomac State 5, Hagerstown CC 1
Potomac State carried its momentum into game two, jumping out early behind a big swing from Compton and never looking back. In the first inning, Compton launched a three-run home run to give the Catamounts an early advantage. In the field, Compton robbed a 3-run home run from tying the game up early. She struck again in the third inning with a solo shot, finishing the game with two home runs and four RBIs.
Fields continued her strong day at the plate with two hits and two runs scored, while Pritts added a hit and reached base twice.
