Keyser, W.Va. - The top-seeded Potomac State softball team dropped a 7-2 decision to No. 2 seed Cecil College in Game 3 of the NJCAA Region 20 Final Four Tournament on Friday afternoon in Keyser.
With the loss, the Catamounts will move into the elimination bracket and face No. 3 seed College of Southern Maryland in Game 5 on Saturday, May 9 at 4:15 p.m. The winner will advance to Sunday's championship round against Cecil College with a chance to compete for the Region 20 title.
Cecil College struck early with three runs in the opening inning before adding two more in the second to take control of the contest. Potomac State settled in defensively after the early frames, as Lacie Miller tossed all seven innings in the circle for the Catamounts.
Potomac State broke through in the sixth inning when Skyla Compton doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Delaney Randolph. The Catamounts added another run in the seventh after Alyssa Abel came around to score on a Compton RBI groundout.
Compton paced the Potomac State offense with a double, RBI, walk, and two stolen bases, while Maddie Fields recorded a team-high two hits from the leadoff spot. Randolph, Jaianna Wickline, and Olivia Julian each added hits for the Catamounts.
Potomac State will now look to continue its postseason run on Saturday afternoon in an elimination matchup against the Hawks.
