Keyser, W.Va. – The WVU Potomac State Catamounts Women's Soccer team suffered a tough 6–0 defeat at the hands of Allegany College of Maryland on Thursday evening at Stayman Field.
Despite a strong performance in goal by Meghan Harris, who recorded 12 saves, the Catamounts were unable to contain Allegany's offensive pressure. The visiting Trojans opened the scoring in the 21st minute with an unassisted goal by Allison Scritchfield, and added a second in the 31st minute courtesy of Emily Wilson, assisted by Neveah Bunbasi and Emma Komatz.
Allegany continued their momentum into the second half, scoring four more times. Ava Sipes netted two goals, including one assisted by Komatz, while Brylee Gray and Wilson each added solo goals to round out the scoring.
The Catamounts managed seven shots, five of which were on target, but were unable to break through Allegany's defense. Mollie Wheatley led the offensive effort with three shots on goal, while Nevaeh Litchfield and Baylie Kirby also contributed attempts.
Allegany controlled possession and field position, earning 14 corner kicks to Potomac State's one and outshooting the Catamounts 31–7. The Catamounts' defensive unit, anchored by Harris, held strong under pressure but ultimately could not withstand the sustained attack.
WVU Potomac State moves to 1–1–0 on the season and will look to regroup ahead of their next match at home against Anne Arundel Community College on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
