Catamounts earn first win of the season in 3 sets.

Last year, the Lady Catamounts started the season with six experienced players. This year, it's the opposite; with just two returning players, the Catamounts returned to action with one of their youngest teams since Ganoe started coaching.   The Catmounts won their first match on Wednesday, sweeping Penn State Fayette 3-0.  The Catamounts won with scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-16.

"We came out a little slow, which I expected, knowing we were playing against a more seasoned team. " The Catamounts had to fight back from a 6-2 deficit in the first set.  "Once the girls settled down and relaxed, things started to fall into place. "

Returning outside Hitter Emonie Fennel showed why she was one of the leading offensive players in NJCAA Region 20 last year. She earned her first triple-double of the season by scoring 15 points, 14 kills, and 11 digs. Jillian Britton, the other returning sophomore, led the team in defense by collecting 15 digs on the night.

Freshman middle hitters Sarah Iman (Moorefield HS) and Eliana Mosby (Martinsburg HS) dominated in the middle last night.   Iman showed what she is capable of offensively by collecting 9 kills to go with her 1.5 blocks.  Mosby, on the other hand, showed her defensive prowess by earning three blocks to go with her 8 kills.

Freshman Outside hitter Skylar Riggleman (University HS) collected 8.5 points, 8 kills, and 12 digs.  Freshman setter Victoria Lester (Winfield HS) dished out 35 assists to go with 4 aces, Freshman opposite Daija Wright (Martinsburg HS).  earned 14 digs and 3 kills; Freshman Stephanie Briscoe (Berkely Springs HS) earned 3 digs.   Rounding out the roster for the Catamounts are Freshman opposite Payton Rumer (Preston HS) and Freshman setter Madigan Runion (Martinsburg HS).

The Catamounts, 1-0, will play their first Region XX match away against Region 20 opponent Allegany College of Maryland on Tuesday night, September 10, at 7 PM.
