Baltimore, Md. — WVU Potomac State Men's Soccer faced one of their toughest tests of the season on Thursday afternoon, falling 8–0 to nationally ranked CCBC Essex in a Region 20 matchup.
The Catamounts (5-2-1, 5-1-1) entered the contest riding a five-game unbeaten streak in conference play, but the Knights (7-2-0, 5-0-0) showed why they sit atop the standings. Essex struck for four first-half goals and never looked back, adding four more in the second half to seal the result.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, Potomac State battled to create chances in the opening period. Midfielder Matthieu Baudry registered a pair of shots on goal, while forward Mateo Miranda added two attempts of his own to lead the Catamount attack. Goalkeeper Justin Leclerc turned aside eight saves while facing a relentless 30-shot barrage from the Knights.
