Keyser, W. Va. - The WVU Potomac State College Men's Soccer team delivered a strong Homecoming performance on Friday evening, earning a 4–2 win over the College of Southern Maryland at Stayman Field. The victory marks the Catamounts' sixth of the season and extends their unbeaten run at home.
Potomac State struck first when Jean Wicarl Vales found the back of the net in the ninth minute to give the Catamounts an early edge. After the Hawks equalized shortly after halftime, Matthieu Baudry answered with a wonderstrike to regain the lead for the home side. Vales added his second goal of the match in the 57th minute off an assist from Hasan Azam, pushing the Catamounts ahead 3–1.
Southern Maryland closed the gap midway through the second half, but Potomac State sealed the result in the closing minutes as Mateo Miranda connected with Emiliano Romero and Vales for the final tally in the 88th minute. Vales led the way with two goals and an assist, while Baudry and Miranda each contributed a goal apiece. Potomac State controlled the attacking tempo throughout the match, outshooting Southern Maryland 25–14 and recording eight corner kicks to the visitors' six.
In goal, Justin Leclerc made five saves to secure the win. With the victory, Potomac State improves to 6–2–1 overall, while the College of Southern Maryland falls to 4–5–4.
The Catamounts will look to carry their momentum forward as they continue Region 20 play next week in an away contest against Harford Community College on Friday, October 10th, 2025.
