Keyser, W.Va. — The Potomac State men's soccer team closed out Sophomore Night in style on Tuesday evening, defeating Frederick Community College 2–1 at Stayman Field. The visiting Cougars responded late in the first half with an equalizer, sending the match into the break tied at one apiece.
In the second half, the Catamounts continued to press forward and control possession, generating several dangerous chances. Their persistence paid off in the 79th minute when Mateo Miranda capitalized on penalty shot, slotting home what would stand as the match-winner. Defensively, Potomac State stayed organized throughout the night, with goalkeeper Justin Leclerc anchoring the back line. Leclerc finished with seven saves, including several key stops down the stretch to preserve the one-goal advantage.
The victory capped off a special night as the Catamounts honored their sophomore class for their dedication and leadership within the program. The pregame recognition carried over into an energetic performance that saw Potomac State battle from start to finish. With the win, WVU Potomac State improves to 7–3–1 on the season. The Catamounts will look to continue their strong form as they close out the regular season schedule as they travel on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 to take on Garrett College.
