Potomac State Advances to Region 20 Semifinals After Double Overtime Thriller

Keyser, W.Va. — In a postseason match full of drama, momentum shifts, and sheer determination, Potomac State Men's Soccer secured a 4–3 double-overtime victory over Garrett College in the NJCAA Division II Region 20 Quarterfinal on Saturday.

Potomac State wasted no time establishing its attack, as Mateo Miranda opened the scoring in the fifth minute with an unassisted strike. The Catamounts continued to generate chances but entered halftime trailing 2–1.

The second half showcased the resilience that has defined this Potomac State squad. Miranda leveled the score in the 77th minute with his second goal of the match, sparking a late offensive push. Just 43 seconds later, Harper Furioso gave Potomac State the lead, finishing a pass from Emiliano Romero to make it 3–2.

Garrett forced overtime with a late equalizer, but Potomac State remained composed under pressure. After a scoreless first overtime, the decisive moment came in the 102nd minute when Jean Wicarl Vales converted on a drive into the box, securing the golden goal and sending the Catamounts into celebration.

Potomac State controlled much of the match offensively, outshooting Garrett 32–16 and putting 19 shots on target. Miranda led the attack with two goals, while Furioso and Vales each added pivotal scores. Romero contributed an assist and was instrumental in the midfield. Goalkeeper Justin Leclerc earned the win in goal, making key saves to keep the match within reach.

With the victory, Potomac State advances to the Region 20 Semifinal, where they will take on CCBC Essex at 2:30 p.m. on October 30 at Howard Community College. The winner moves on to compete for the Region 20 Championship and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
