October 21, 2025

McHenry, Md. — WVU Potomac State Men's Soccer earned a hard-fought 1–0 victory on the road against Garrett College on October 21, relying on disciplined defending and clutch goalkeeping to secure the postseason win.

After a scoreless first half, the breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Jean Wicarl Vales capitalized on a loose ball and fired home the unassisted goal to put the Catamounts ahead. The one-goal margin held firm thanks to a determined defensive unit and standout individual efforts in the back line.

Goalkeeper Justin Leclerc recorded three saves, keeping the Lakers off the board during key stretches of the second half. In addition to strong play in goal, the Catamounts leaned on crucial defensive heroics from No. 12, Denis-Alexandre Talbot, who delivered two goal-line clearances to deny Garrett the equalizer and preserve the lead in the closing moments.

Potomac State weathered late pressure from Garrett, but the back line stayed organized and composed, clearing dangerous chances and limiting quality opportunities. Despite a flurry of yellow cards in the first half, the Catamounts maintained their focus and composure to close out the match.

Potomac State finished the contest with nine shots, three on target, while holding Garrett to seven total attempts. The Catamounts also led in corner kicks, 9–8, using set-piece opportunities to control possession and momentum throughout the match.
