Keyser, W.Va. — Potomac State College men's basketball team erased a halftime deficit Wednesday night, using a strong second-half surge to secure a 65-63 victory over Cecil College inside Lough Gym. Trailing 34-27 at the break, the Catamounts (20-6) responded with a 38-point second half, tightening up defensively and capitalizing at the free-throw line down the stretch to complete the comeback.
Rodney Vilsaint sparked the offense with a team-high 17 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc and adding four free throws. His timely scoring kept Potomac State within striking distance throughout the second half. RJ Greene provided a major lift off the bench, pouring in 13 points while converting 7-of-8 from the foul line. Jordan Taylor controlled the paint with 13 rebounds to go along with 11 points, securing a double-double and anchoring the Catamounts on the defensive glass. Peter Quaye added 10 points, while Colby Margenau gave Potomac State efficient minutes with four points on 2-of-2 shooting and three rebounds. As a team, the Catamounts made their presence felt at the stripe, converting 23-of-34 free throws — a critical factor in the two-point victory.
Despite shooting 31.7 percent from the field, Potomac State limited turnovers to 11 and came up with key defensive stops in the final possessions to seal the win. With the victory, the Catamounts improve to 20-6 on the season and continue building momentum as postseason play approaches.
